Children

Sunday Mornings

Nursery and Toddler Care:  Our nursery is staffed by trained and Safe Sanctuary approved childcare workers who are committed to the comfort, safety, and loving care for all children.  Parent sign-in/sign-out procedures ensure safe claiming of children, and pagers are available for parents while attending Sunday School and worship services.  Nursery and toddler care is available beginning at 8:20am in room 202.

Little Blessings: This Sunday School class is for 2 ½ and 3 year old children who are ready to learn simple finger plays and songs and explore the stories of the Bible in a child appropriate ways.  The class meets in room 201, 9:30-10:20am, after which the little ones may attend worship with their parents, or return to the comfort and familiarity of the nursery in room 202.

Joyful Spirits:  In story and response, children ages 4 – grade 2 meet at 9:30am to experience the stories and parables of our faith.  Through a discovery process that engages the whole child – hands, heart, mind, senses, and intuition – the children learn the stories of the Bible and create their own hands-on response.  Our storytellers and greeters will be there to help the children know God and the Bible in Room 206.

Bible Explorers:  Worship doesn’t need to be boring for kids!  Designed especially for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students, this class meets at 9:30am to hear the stories of the Bible, learn about the calendar of the church, engage in mission, and learn how to be active participants in the worship life of Epworth Church.

Children’s Moments:  During Sunday morning worship, typically after the reading of the Gospel lesson, children are invited to gather on the steps in front of the altar to hear a message that helps them to connect with the scriptures and sermon for the day.  Children of all ages are welcome to join, as well as mom’s and dad’s if younger children feel more comfortable.

Children’s Worship: While children are always welcome to remain in worship, during the 10:30am service, children ages 3-grade 2, are invited, following Children’s Moments,  to room 201 for their own child-sized, hands-on worship activities and snack.  Parents are asked to pick up their children following the worship service in room 201.  On Sundays that we celebrate Holy Communion, the children return to the sanctuary to participate in the sacrament as members of the family of God.

Other Opportunities for Children and Families

Throughout the year, a variety of family activities are planned both within the church and the community.  Updates and information for all events is published in the church bulletin and the church newsletter.  Information is also shared via the Marion Epworth Facebook page and ‘group’ page.  Please be sure to join both. Visit our Facebook page by clicking HERE.

Children’s Choir:  Children ages 4 years through grade 4 are invited to join.  The choir rehearses at 9:00am each Sunday.  The choir will be singing during our 10:30am worship service once each month. Children’s Choir will meet in room 203.

We are a Safe Sanctuary Congregation!  Safe Sanctuary is Epworth’s commitment to preventing the opportunity for the occurrence of child abuse within our ministries.  Staff members and volunteers in ministries with children and youth have participated in training and completed a background check.  If you’d like more information about our Safe Sanctuary policy or procedures, please contact Alycia Orcena, aorcena@epworthumc.org.
